Airplane crashes off coast of Puerto Rico

A small, light plane crashed in the ocean while on a flight from La Romana, Dominican Republic to San Juan, Puerto Rico. While not much is known at the moment, the Cessna C206 Stationair (similar to the one above), with six people aboard, crashed just offshore near Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, in the northwest of the island. The U.S. Coast Guard, as well as other state and federal agencies, are searching for any survivors.
Since only small fragments of the airplane have been found, the aircraft may have had a high angle of impact when it went in the water and it is unlikely that there are survivors. This seems to be in accordance with witness accounts. According to the accounts, the plane appeared to be having engine irregularities, before an explosion was seen, and the plane spiraled into the ground. It’s important to note that in aviation, witness accounts are sometimes very inaccurate, especially when it comes to explosions. So the explosion may not have been there or could just have been an engine backfire. However, the high angle, spiraling descent is a very strong possibility from accounts and wreckage layout.
As always, we’ll keep you up to date with the latest news on this accident.
