Back in March 17, 2010, a Rutan VariEze (registration N50894) crashed near Casa Grande, Arizona after a loss of engine power.  You can read Velozia Air’s original post on the accident HERE.  On March 26th, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released their preliminary report on the accident, although it presents few new details.

According to the report, the VariEze departed an airport near Bisbee, Arizona at 7:30 AM MST on its way to Glendale Municipal Airport (GEU) in Glendale.  As stated in the original report, the plane was about 25 miles southeast of the destination airport when the pilot reported that he would be attempting an emergency landing due to an engine failure.  It took rescue crews seven hours to locate the wreckage.  They found the pilot injured and trapped in the upside-down plane.
