A single-engine Cessna 172G (registration N5880R) crashed at 2:54 PM after striking power lines while attempting an emergency landing at a field in March’s Point, a peninsula to the west of Anacortes, Washington.  The pilot and sole occupant of the aircraft was OK, but suffered a head injury in yesterday’s (March 27, 2010) crash.

According to witnesses, the plane was headed from east to west over March’s Point and seemed to be attempting an emergency landing on one of the open fields near the Tesoro Refinery.  Some witnesses reported hearing no engine noise, while other claim to have heard an engine sputtering.  As the plane was close to landing, it hit a power line and flipped over into the ground.

According to authorities, the pilot departed an airport in the San Juan Islands and his destination was Anacortes Airport (74S).  The pilot is from Anacortes.
